the first miller family vacay (part 1).

Darin and I decided (or maybe it was just me) that it was time for a little vacation getaway.  Since becoming a family of 3, we haven't had a chance to go anywhere other than weekends here and there in Lafayette.  In December, we are flying to Florida for a week and thought it would be a good idea to have Henry "practice" life away from home for a week and in a hotel room.

Our destination was Holland, MI b/c it was close, had a big beach and lots of places Henry would enjoy.  I found a fantastic hotel downtown called CityFlats.  It was in a great location and the rooms were nice and modern.  Henry thought it was Disney World.  He ran all over the place, climbed in the cabinets, flipped the lights on and off and found a new love for walk-in showers.  I have to break the photos up into at least three parts b/c I took way too many (but not a SINGLE pic of the three of us, can you believe it???).

The first day was spent packing, traveling and then settling into the hotel.  We had a couple of hours to spare before dinner, so we headed to Tunnel Park so Henry could experience the sand & water for the first time.  The beach also had a playground so we knew he would enjoy some swinging and sliding.  His first reaction to the sand was not good... He completely threw a fit and refused to stand/walk in it.  We carried him around for a bit before trying it again.  After sitting on a log for about 10 minutes, we decided to give it a go and just drop him in it to figure out how to walk for himself (awesome parenting right here :)  Luckily he realized it wasn't so bad and had a great time going to the water with Darin and letting it splash all over his feet.  All in all, the first beach day was a success!

We ended the night with dinner and ice cream, then headed back to the hotel to crash.  The best place for the pack n' play was in the shower and Henry was able to settle in pretty well.  He even slept in the next morning until 9:30!  Here are the pics from his first trip to the beach:
