cali trip 2012- day 6/san francisco (part 1)

Thursday was our first full day in San Francisco.  We headed into the city to do some exploring before our tour of Alcatraz.  The first stop was Pier 39, which basically turned out to be a tourist trap.  The best part was the candy store which offered over 30 different salt water taffy flavors, yum!  After a brief walk around the pier, we headed into the city to find Lombard Street (the "crookedest" street in America).  I found a little lunch place called Freddie's Sandwiches along the way and it was awesome. We burned off our sandwiches as we hiked (literally, no wonder people in San Fran are all thin) up the street hills to find Lombard St.  The street itself was bizarre, but the views from the top were amazing.  After our hike back down the hills, we awaited our boat ride to The Rock (stay tuned for that post tomorrow!).  I loved all the buildings & homes in San Fran, it is such a beautiful city!
