Darin was lucky enough hear about this great place to see elephant seals near Big Sur. Once we found out about the spot, we made it a point to stop and take some pictures. There were hundreds of seals just hanging out and being lazy. The volunteers at the site said these were adolescents and their parents were up in Alaska. In December, the adults will return to the beach to mate. The ones we saw looked huge, but apparently the parents are twice as big, anywhere from 3000-6000 pounds. My favorite thing was watching them scratch their noses and flippers. They had nails that could bend like fingers, thus allowing themselves to take care of anything that itched.
It was pretty hilarious. Enjoy!
